Hi!  I'm Nadia Burnstick and I love to weave.  I draw my inspiration from the prairies, where I live, weaving together texture and story through abstract circle weavings.  Rooted in my background of weaving the sayncheur flayshii (Métis arrow sash), and through the calming rhythm of handmade work, my practice reflects my growing connection to the land and the stories it holds.

 

I have been so fortunate to be mentored by award-winning artist and art teacher, Sharon Gowryluk.  My circle work has been shaped by her unique knowledge across so many artistic disciplines.  As a result, my artwork incorporates a blend of weaving, crochet, and wrapping techniques, creating richly layered pieces.  I use mostly muted colour palettes that echo prairie sunsets, grasses, sand, and moonlit skies.

 

Alongside my love of weaving, my background is as a singer and songwriter, one half of the acclaimed duo Burnstick.  As with my songs, I strive to attach an emotional and meditative quality to my work, where each woven piece carries a sense of movement and storytelling.  I love the texture of fibres and I endeavour to create pieces that carry roots, connection, and the enduring spirit of prairie life.
